Job Description
The Data Operations Lead is a senior operations and platform reliability leader responsible for managing enterprise-scale data platforms across Snowflake, AWS, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
This role is accountable for platform stability, operational excellence, incident management, observability, performance optimization, security adherence, cost governance, and service reliability. The Data Operations Lead will act as the operational anchor between data engineering teams, platform teams, cloud operations, architecture, security, governance, vendors, and business stakeholders.
This is a high-impact role requiring strong judgment, hands-on platform understanding, operational discipline, and the ability to ensure that critical data platforms and data products remain reliable, secure, scalable, and business-ready.
Key Responsibilities
1. Data Platform Operations: Snowflake, AWS & GCP
·Lead day-to-day operations for enterprise data platforms across Snowflake, AWS, and GCP.
·Ensure platform availability, reliability, resiliency, and performance across production and non-production environments.
·Manage operational readiness for data ingestion, processing, storage, transformation, and consumption workloads.
·Own operational runbooks, support models, escalation processes, and platform health reporting.
·Ensure data platforms are production-ready with monitoring, alerting, logging, backup, recovery, and supportability controls.
·Partner with engineering and platform teams to ensure solutions align with enterprise platform standards and operational guardrails.
2. Snowflake Operations & Administration
·Manage Snowflake operational activities including warehouse monitoring, workload management, access support, performance tuning, and cost tracking.
·Oversee Snowflake environment stability across development, test, production, and disaster recovery setups.
·Support role-based access controls, security policies, data sharing controls, and governance requirements.
·Monitor query performance, warehouse utilization, storage growth, and credit consumption.
·Drive optimization of Snowflake usage through workload tuning, warehouse sizing, automation, and FinOps practices.
·Support issue resolution for Snowflake pipelines, data loads, user access, consumption issues, and production incidents.
3. Cloud Operations: AWS & GCP
·Manage operational support for data platforms hosted on AWS and GCP.
·Monitor and support cloud services related to storage, compute, networking, identity, data processing, orchestration, and security.
·Partner with cloud platform, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to resolve operational issues.
·Support capacity planning, service lifecycle management, patching coordination, and cloud resource optimization.
·Ensure cloud environments comply with enterprise security, governance, and architecture standards.
·Drive cost visibility and optimization across AWS and GCP data platform services.
4. Incident, Problem & Change Management
·Lead major incident management for critical data platform issues.
·Ensure timely triage, escalation, communication, resolution, and post-incident reviews.
·Own RCA documentation and drive corrective and preventive actions.
·Establish strong problem management practices to reduce recurring incidents.
·Manage production changes in partnership with engineering, DevOps, platform, and release teams.
·Ensure operational risks are identified, communicated, and mitigated early.
5. Observability, Monitoring & Reliability
·Define and implement monitoring, alerting, logging, and dashboarding standards for data platforms.
·Track platform health using operational KPIs such as availability, incident volume, MTTR, SLA/SLO adherence, job failures, query performance, and cost trends.
·Improve proactive detection of data platform issues before business impact.
·Support data pipeline observability across ingestion, transformation, and consumption layers.
·Drive continuous improvement in platform reliability, resiliency, and recoverability.
·Promote SRE-style practices for data platform operations.
6. Data Operations Governance
·Ensure operational controls are in place for critical data pipelines, datasets, data products, and platform services.
·Partner with data governance teams to support access governance, auditability, lineage, documentation, and compliance requirements.
·Ensure operational processes support secure and governed delivery of data products.
·Maintain support documentation, SOPs, knowledge articles, runbooks, and operational playbooks.
·Drive adherence to enterprise standards for access, change, release, monitoring, and production support.
7. Automation & Continuous Improvement
·Identify opportunities to reduce manual operational effort through automation.
·Drive automation for monitoring, alerting, access workflows, housekeeping, cost reporting, platform checks, and recurring support tasks.
·Work with DevOps teams on CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and platform automation.
·Use scripting and automation tools such as Python, SQL, Shell scripting, Open Tofu, Terraform, or cloud-native automation services.
·Establish reusable operational frameworks and templates across Snowflake, AWS, and GCP platforms.
8. Leadership & Stakeholder Management
·Lead and guide data operations engineers, platform support engineers, and managed service partners.
·Coordinate across data engineering, architecture, platform, security, governance, product, and business teams.
·Provide clear operational updates to leadership and stakeholders.
·Manage vendor performance, support SLAs, escalations, and service quality.
·Mentor team members on operational excellence, troubleshooting, platform administration, and stakeholder communication.
·Drive a culture of accountability, ownership, reliability, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
·10+ years of experience in data platform operations, cloud operations, data engineering operations, or infrastructure support roles.
·Proven experience managing production-grade data platforms on Snowflake, AWS, and GCP.
·Strong understanding of data warehouse, lakehouse, ELT/ETL, and cloud-native data platform operations.
·Hands-on experience in incident management, problem management, change management, and production support.
·Experience supporting business-critical data pipelines, analytics platforms, and reporting workloads.
·Strong understanding of security, access management, monitoring, alerting, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery practices.
·Experience with operational governance, runbooks, SOPs, production support models, and platform health reporting.
·Strong SQL skills and ability to troubleshoot data platform issues.
·Working knowledge of scripting or automation using Python, Shell scripting, or similar tools.
·Ability to communicate complex operational issues clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
·Experience with modern lakehouse or enterprise data platform architectures.
·Experience working with data observability, platform monitoring, or APM tools.
·Exposure to tools such as Snowflake monitoring, CloudWatch, Google Cloud Monitoring, Grafana, Splunk, Datadog, Monte Carlo, Acceldata, Airflow, dbt, or similar platforms.
·Familiarity with CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, Terraform, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps.
·Experience in manufacturing analytics, supply chain analytics, commercial analytics, or enterprise reporting environments.
·Experience managing vendors or managed service providers.
·ITIL Foundation certification preferred.
·Snowflake SnowPro, AWS, or GCP certifications are preferred.
·Prior experience leading a platform operations, SRE, cloud operations, or data operations team.

Experience
10 to 15 years of total experience, preferably with at least:
·5+ years in data platform operations or cloud platform operations.
·3+ years of hands-on Snowflake operational experience.
·3+ years supporting AWS and/or GCP data platform services.
·Prior experience leading an operations team or managed services team.
Education
·B.Tech / B.E. in any specialization
·M.Tech / MCA preferred
