About This Role

As a Senior Chiller Technician at Carrier, you will play a key role in the installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of commercial and industrial chiller systems and associated HVAC equipment.

You will use your technical expertise to diagnose complex mechanical, electrical and control-system issues, perform preventive and corrective maintenance, and ensure that chiller systems operate safely, reliably and efficiently.

Working both independently and as part of a team, you will interact directly with customers and internal stakeholders, providing professional technical service and helping maintain Carrier's high standards for safety, quality and customer satisfaction.

This role is well suited to an experienced HVAC professional with strong chiller knowledge who is passionate about technical excellence and looking to take their expertise to the next level.

Essential Responsibilities

• Perform inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of commercial and industrial chiller systems and associated HVAC equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, refrigeration and control-system faults and determine appropriate corrective actions.
• Carry out scheduled maintenance activities to maintain equipment reliability, efficiency and performance.
• Service and maintain chillers, chilled-water systems, pumps, cooling towers and associated HVAC equipment.
• Inspect operating pressures, temperatures, refrigerant circuits, chilled-water systems and other critical operating parameters using appropriate test instruments.
• Identify refrigerant leaks and perform refrigerant recovery, evacuation, charging and related service activities in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures.
• Inspect, test and maintain compressors, motors, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, condenser and evaporator systems, controls and safety devices.
• Troubleshoot electrical circuits, electronic controls, sensors, starters, variable-frequency drives and other control components associated with chiller systems.
• Diagnose and adjust HVAC control systems and support the operation of building automation and control systems where applicable.
• Perform system start-up, shutdown, commissioning, testing and performance checks as required.
• Analyze equipment operating conditions and recommend corrective actions to improve system reliability and energy efficiency.
• Replace or repair defective components and ensure equipment is returned to safe and reliable operating condition.
• Maintain accurate service reports, maintenance records, equipment readings and documentation in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
• Provide technical guidance and support to junior technicians and other field personnel when required.
• Communicate effectively with customers, site representatives, supervisors and other stakeholders regarding equipment condition, service requirements and recommended solutions.
• Identify potential risks and hazards associated with work activities and take appropriate measures to mitigate them.
• Follow all Carrier safety policies, procedures and applicable local regulations.
• Maintain and use required personal protective equipment (PPE), tools and company-issued equipment.
• Participate in on-call or emergency service rotations as required by the business.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Technical diploma, vocational qualification or certification in HVAC, refrigeration, mechanical or electrical engineering is preferred.
• 5–7 years of relevant HVAC/chiller experience required.
• Strong hands-on experience with commercial or industrial chiller systems.
• Experience with troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, refrigeration and control-system faults.
• Valid driver's license where required by the role and local regulations.
• Relevant refrigerant handling certification/license, where required by local regulations.
• Relevant electrical/HVAC certification or license, where required by local regulations.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize service activities and make sound technical decisions in the field.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and provide technical support to less-experienced technicians.
• Ability to lift, push and pull equipment and materials as required for the role.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime, emergency call-outs or on-call rotations where required.

Knowledge and Technical Skills

Strong knowledge of:

• Commercial and industrial HVAC and refrigeration systems.
• Air-cooled and/or water-cooled chiller systems.
• Chilled-water and condenser-water systems.
• Chiller compressors, evaporators, condensers, expansion devices, pumps and associated components.
• Refrigeration principles, refrigerant circuits and refrigerant recovery procedures.
• Electrical circuits, motors, starters, contactors, relays and variable-frequency drives.
• Electronic controls, sensors, safety devices and HVAC control systems.
• Building automation and management systems.
• Preventive and corrective maintenance practices.
• HVAC diagnostic tools, electrical test instruments and refrigeration service equipment.
• HVAC safety procedures, refrigerant handling requirements and applicable regulatory standards.
• Safe handling and use of chemicals, refrigerants and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
• Technical documentation, service reports and maintenance records.
