About the role

Carrier is seeking an experienced commercial attorney to serve as Senior Manager, General Legal within the Climate Solutions Americas (CSA) legal team. This position provides strategic legal support to several of Carrier's most important growth initiatives, including Strategic Commercial Solutions (SCS), digital and software offerings, strategic customer programs, building automation and controls solutions, and select enterprise growth projects.

The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders and cross-functional stakeholders, providing practical and solution-oriented legal counsel on complex commercial transactions, business initiatives, strategic partnerships, digital offerings, and operational matters. The role requires strong judgment, business acumen, and the ability to independently manage sophisticated legal matters while partnering closely with senior leadership.

This position reports to the Director, General Legal and is a key member of the CSA Legal team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead legal advisor for assigned CSA businesses and growth initiatives.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on complex commercial agreements, including:
    • Master Services Agreements
    • Software and SaaS agreements
    • Technology licensing agreements
    • Strategic customer agreements
    • Distribution and channel partner agreements
    • Confidentiality agreements
    • Joint development, integration, and partnership arrangements
  • Provide legal support for digital offerings, connected products, software solutions, and data-driven services.
  • Advise business leadership regarding commercial risk allocation, contract strategy, warranty issues, intellectual property concerns, data privacy considerations, and dispute avoidance.
  • Support strategic sales opportunities and major customer pursuits through collaboration with sales, operations, finance, procurement, product management, engineering, and executive leadership.
  • Develop practical guidance, templates, playbooks, and training materials to improve contracting efficiency and risk management.
  • Help identify, assess, and mitigate legal and business risks while supporting company growth objectives.
  • Coordinate with regional and global legal colleagues on cross-border transactions and business initiatives.
  • Manage pre-litigation matters and partner with internal and external counsel when disputes arise.
  • Promote compliance with Carrier policies, the Carrier Code of Ethics, and applicable laws and regulations.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 8+ years of legal experience advising corporate or commercial entities on contract negotiation and transactional matters.    
  • 8+ years of experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts (e.g., procurement, vendor, licensing, or SaaS agreements).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced global business environment.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and communicate legal advice to both legal and non-legal audiences.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, technology, software, SaaS, HVAC, building automation, or energy-related businesses.
  • Experience with strategic customer agreements and large-scale commercial transactions.
  • Familiarity with data-center, digital, software, AI, controls, or connected-services business models.
  • Experience managing legal issues involving intellectual property, privacy, cybersecurity, and product commercialization.
  • Experience creating scalable legal processes and contracting tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with senior executives and cross-functional leadership teams.

Pay Range

The annual salary for this position is between $117,500.00 - $234,500.00 annually. Factors which may affect pay within this range include, but are not limited to, skills, education, experience, and other unique qualifications of the successful candidate. The pay range will not be below the minimum wage applicable to the jurisdiction in which the applicant is to be employed.

Other Compensation

This position is entitled to short-term cash incentives, subject to plan requirements.
