Summary:
The candidate will be hands-on Technical in developing model-based Controls engineering for the R2W solution, working with Global Controls experts and System architects. This position will focus on new controls engineering development as well as enhancement of existing solutions. This position requires the ability to work under minimal direction in collaboration with a team of engineers to design and develop robust system solutions that meet defined system requirements.
We are seeking a Controls Engineering expert, who will be a key contributor and hand-on in the design, development and implementation controls engineering solution, working with global experts and System architects. This position will focus on new development of firmware as well as enhancement of existing applications. This position requires the ability to work under minimal direction, Partner with: Systems Integration Engineers, AI/ML teams, Modeling & simulation teams and platform teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Controls Integration & Model‑Based Verification
Integrate digital twin plant and equipment models with control algorithms to support closed‑loop simulation and validation.
Execute Model‑in‑the‑Loop (MIL) and Software‑in‑the‑Loop (SIL) simulations as a core responsibility to verify control behavior against realistic plant dynamics.
Extend verification to Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL) where required to support lab and field validation.
Ensure models are control‑relevant, stable, and suitable for verification, sequencing validation, and performance assessment.
Work closely with ECAT / equipment engineering teams and external partners (e.g., national labs, external vendors, research institutions such as Lawrence Berkeley–type organizations) to incorporate validated component and system models.
Tools, Platforms & Workflows
Develop multi‑domain models using Modelica‑based tools (e.g., Dymola or equivalent) and support model exchange and integration (e.g., FMU/FMI workflows).
Use MATLAB/Simulink (or equivalent) for control logic development, integration, and verification where applicable.
Establish repeatable workflows for model calibration, verification, and deployment across QLIQ use cases.
Collaborate with AI/ML teams to provide physics‑based priors and validate AI outputs against physical constraints.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Controls, or Systems Engineering
8+ years of hand-on experience in controls engineering, system modeling, or related domain
Experience in HVAC, data center cooling, liquid cooling, refrigeration, or industrial thermal systems experience in Closed Loop Controls & PID control loops
Ability to translate system-level requirements into robust, testable control strategiesHands-on experience leading commissioning, FAT, SAT, and field troubleshooting activities, including root-cause analysis of complex system issues
Familiarity with Carrier technologies: WebCTRL, PIC controllers, Nlyte DCIM, chillers/CDUs/CRAHs
Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements (UL, IEC, NEC, CE, functional safety concepts)
Strong experience with interpretation and review of schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and control panel layouts
Deep understanding of Controls architectures, control sequences, state machines, interlocks, alarms, and safety-critical logic
