About the position

We are seeking a highly motivated, results-oriented Associate Director, Materials to continue to raise our high bar in manufacturing leadership.

The ideal candidate will be able to effectively lead a team of planners, supervisors, and materials associates in support of operational goals and requirements. The successful candidate will develop and implement a vision with new strategies in technology and systems to maximize utilization of material and labor in a high-volume production environment. This candidate must be a self-starter and motivated to make a significant change in a well-established environment. 


Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities for this position include:

  • Execute the lean vision and strategy to reduce inventory, lead-time, and waste to improve process quality.
  • Drive measurable improvements that support metrics for customer delivery, productivity, inventory management and product flow.
  • Lead teams to develop pull systems, training personnel, and other activities to achieve world-class process flow.
  • Develop value stream maps for the factory and eliminate process waste through implementation of lean techniques.
  • Encourage use of lean tools to pull material from suppliers and internal sources/customers.
  • Drive lean focus on material delivery route optimization and material days on hand Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) to reduce operating costs.
  • Promote Six Sigma/Lean integration utilizing strength of both methods to achieve business goals.
  • Drive improvements in material flow utilizing lean methods.
  • Train site on lean concepts and mentor using lean tools.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (of art or science) with 10+ years experience in materials management within manufacturing, OR Master’s Degree (of art or science) with 7+ years experience in materials management within manufacturing.
  • 5+ years experience people management.
  • Must be willing to flex working hours based on business needs.


Preferred Qualifications (assets)

  • Experience within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. High speed assembly.
  • Effective at leading change and influencing all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to tailor communications to different audiences
  • Experience with current continuous improvement techniques, including involvement with kaizen, value stream mapping, standard work, RRCA, and/or other lean tools.
  • Experience in implementing and improving warehouse management systems.
  • Experience with material delivery route optimization.
  • Experience and proven leader in inventory accuracy / inventory control processes.
  • Energetic, hands-on; able to drive change and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships with production employees, peers and manufacturing management.
  • Ability to work with minimal guidance and direction.
  • Experience in a union environment.
