About the role

A Field Service Technician for chillers installs, maintains, repairs, and diagnoses complex HVAC water-cooled and air-cooled systems at customer sites. Responsibilities include troubleshooting mechanical/electrical faults, performing warranty services, and ensuring safety compliance to minimize equipment downtime. They require strong technical knowledge of chillers, diagnostic tools, and often need certifications like EPA Universal or F-Gas. 

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Maintenance & Repair: Perform preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, and overhauls on centrifugal, screw, and scroll chillers.

  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and software faults in HVAC control systems.

  • Installation: Oversee the installation, setup, and commissioning of new or rental chiller equipment.

  • Customer Support: Provide onsite technical support, explain technical issues to customers, and ensure customer satisfaction.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate daily logs, service reports, and safety documentation.

  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards, including lock-out/tag-out procedures. 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience: Proven experience (often 1-3+ years) in commercial/industrial HVAC, specifically with chillers.

  • Education/Certification: High school diploma; vocational training or associate degree preferred. EPA Universal Certification (US) or F-Gas (UK) is typically required.

  • Technical Skills: Ability to read schematics, blueprints, and interpret technical manuals. Proficient with testing tools like multimeters and gauges.

  • Physical Ability: Ability to work in varied environmental conditions,

  • Flexibility: Availability for on-call rotation, weekends, and emergency, overtime work.
