About the position

Carrier is looking for a highly motivated and hands on associate director to help drive our IoT/Cloud Cargo platform for the Sensitech business. The ideal candidate will be an engineering leader with deep technology expertise and a collaborative style that brings others into the decision-making process.

As a Software Leader you'll work as part of a team of problem solvers, helping to solve complex business and technology issues from strategy to execution. This position will have significant impact to the technical direction for the platform within a global organization and able to nurture high-performance software engineering teams which includes both internal and external contractor teams. You will ensure consistent delivery on commitments with a keen focus on quality and efficiency enhancements. This role requires a demonstrated track record of managing in a global delivery environment and has supported maturing processes, mentoring software engineers, and managers through every phase of software development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Expertise: Serve as a thought leader to accelerate the adoption of best engineering practices, while staying updated on industry innovations, trends, and practices.
  • SDLC Oversight: Provide technical direction and oversight across all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), from architecture to delivery, following best practices in Software Development, DevOps, and SecOps.
  • Mentorship and Development: Act as a role model and mentor, helping to mentor, develop, coach, and strengthen the technical expertise and know-how of our engineering and product community. Inspire individuals and teams to excel.
  • Leadership: Build trust and confidence with team members and executives. Provide thought leadership through business communications and active collaboration, leading cross-functional groups to achieve technology goals.
  • Advocacy: Evangelist, both internally and externally, helping to elevate the organization and establish yourself as a go-to resource on given technologies and technology-enabled capabilities.
  • Balancing Priorities: Balance business needs against technical needs and communicate their importance in prioritizing backlogs.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the architecture team to deliver scalable, secure, and maintainable development initiatives, focusing on reducing technical debt.
  • Problem Solving: Demonstrate strong analytical, strategic, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Passion for Cloud-Native Technologies: Show enthusiasm for cloud-native technologies.
  • Change Agent: Act as a change agent within the organization.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree of Science from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Computer Science or Software Engineering.
  • 5+ years of leading and mentoring highly performing software development teams.
  • 10+ years of overall experience in software development domain.
  • 4+ years’ experience in Cloud native applications (AWS, or Azure).
  • Ability for traveling up to 25 % (Nationally and internationally).


Preferred Qualifications (assets):

  • Solid working knowledge of modern programming languages (.NET, NodeJS, Typescript, Angular, React)
  • Thorough working knowledge in AWS/Azure (serverless, containers, etc.)
  • Proven track record for developing large-scale cloud-based software products.
  • Knowledge of IoT communications and interactions with cloud services
  • Experience in executing CI/CD processes.
  • Experience in developing APIs (REST, GraphQL)
  • Experience in common database technologies (RDS, Postgres, NoSQL)
  • Success in team skill development, technology enhancement, template development and process improvement
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally.
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or MBA
  • Global Experience
  • AWS/Azure Certified preferred, but not mandatory
  • Self-directed, highly motivated, and organized with strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, and ability to oversee multiple projects and a global team.

  • This is a hybrid position (3 days onsite, 2 days remote) and based out of the Beverly, MA office.
