About this role

As an Electrical Engineer supporting decarbonization efforts at NORESCO, you will play a critical role informing strategic decisions and developing recommendations that align with our client’s electrification and decarbonization goals.  Your involvement in a wide-range of efficiency, resilience, and decarbonization projects will span from initial feasibility assessment through project implementation, and inform and support client decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

This role will provide opportunities to serve as a technical resource while interacting closely with clients and members of the NORESCO business development, operations, and engineering teams to identify, and evaluate and deliver decarbonization strategies and projects. 

You will have the ability to leverage and build upon your prior electrical engineering experience to: 

  • Make recommendations  of technical electrical-focused solutions such as renewable energy, Photovoltaic (PV), Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), Microgrids, and Electric Vehicle (EV) infrastructure based on data driven assessments. Evaluate grid connectivity, resiliency, and demand response opportunities. Develop business cases for the deployment of recommendations in the public sector and various other industries.
  • Lead the development of building electrification, resilience ,and renewable energy projects, performing task including:
    • Assist Business Development team with reviewing and responding to Request for Proposal (RFP’s), participate in client interviews as Subject Matter Expert. 
    • Conduct detailed site evaluations (remote and on-site system assessments), identify optimal system sizing, develop conceptual equipment layouts, identify system interconnection points, and determine system feasibility based on physical site conditions and limitations. 
    • Perform simulation modeling and/or develop spreadsheet-based energy calculations to provide analysis of annual production/energy savings, avoided cost and quantity impacts of the associated greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions.  
    • Perform initial component selection and develop supporting reference deliverables including single line diagrams, equipment or material specifications, engineering validation, and 3D renderings. 
    • Develop budget quality project cost estimates to be utilized in financial proforma, life cycle cost analysis, or support financial decision making. 
    • Prepare high-level roadmaps, detailed technical reports and client-facing presentations.  Provide recommendations as standalone product or in combination of a larger decarbonization effort.  
    • Support clients in their pursuit of project approvals.
  • Manage multiple projects in accordance with project contracts, schedules, budgets, scopes of work, and design specifications.
  • Foster effective and positive business relationships both internally and externally within the industry. Attend trade meetings and industry events to create and enhance business relationships. 
  • Perform research and maintain a pulse on the industry to continually evaluate and recommend new and/or innovative technologies.  Serve as an internal Subject Matter Expert as to the electrical impact of advancements.  

Additionally, as part of our Sustainability Services consulting team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to other decarbonization, electrification, and sustainability services such as

  • Developing strategic decarbonization and electrification plans 
  • Recommending renewable and energy efficiency technologies including PV, wind turbines, micro-cogeneration systems, microgrids, battery energy storage, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure
  • Participating in third party commissioning projects as well as energy audits and retro-commissioning studies 
  • Helping inform/develop industry standards and local energy codes to ensure code amendments and proposals consider any perceived electrical constraints.
  • Learning from other in-house technical Subject Matter Experts , participating in our formal mentorship program, and training junior-level engineers 

Willingness to travel up to 20%

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 7+ years’ combined project engineering/project management experience with electrical and/or renewable engineering tasks, such as Photovoltaic (PV)/ Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)/ Electric Vehicle (EV) or microgrid system consulting, design, construction oversight and/or commissioning.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET accredited college or university
  • Relevant engineering experience performing tasks including evaluating electrification opportunities, identifying renewable energy opportunities, performance of on-site surveys, component selection, utility bill analysis or energy/cost savings calculations.
  • Experience creating conceptual designs and/or electrical single-line diagrams.  
  • Proven construction management experience at a commercial scale 
  • Extensive knowledge of distributed energy resources, grid interactivity, demand response, building electrification, and climate policies.
  • Knowledge of local, regional, national, and international energy codes and standards including NFPA and NEC, and permitting process  
  • Experience with renewable energy credit and incentive programs 
  • AEE Certified Renewable Energy Professional – REP or SEI solar professional certification.  
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification  
  • Professional Engineer’s registration (or EIT with path to obtaining one)
  • Experience with system energy modeling software  
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint  
  • Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills 
  • Demonstrated experience collaboratively working with cross-functional teams. 
  • Detail-oriented with a strong sense of personal responsibility and ownership of work products

Pay Range:

$90,263 - $157,959 Annually
