About this role

The International Trade Compliance Lead will manage Sensitech’s international trade compliance (ITC) program locally, supporting the business onsite, working closely with our sales, supply chain, engineering, and digital personnel, and working in conjunction with our centralized ITC function at the group level, including enhancing controls, maintaining and updating localized procedures as directed by Carrier’s ITC  department, managing escalations of transactions of concern, auditing process implementation, investigating issues as needed, and assisting  Carrier’s centralized ITC Group with government reviews or inquiries as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with legal to manage investigations of potential or suspected violations of law or company policy and, where required, work with legal to prepare disclosures to government agencies.
  • Support the development of procedures, standard work, and desk instructions for various trade compliance areas (including licensing and authorizations, export filings, investigations, facility management, customs filings etc.), and support implementation of such requirements.   
  • Assist engineering with export and import classification assessments.
  • Manage electronic export information filing processes and auditing.
  • Manage dangerous goods shipment procedures.
  • Prepare factual summaries, presentations and training materials regarding trade compliance issues and obligations, and lead presentations and training sessions to businesses and management as needed.
  • Participate in audits, internal reviews and investigations to identify compliance enhancement opportunities and develop corrective actions and risk mitigation strategies to address compliance gaps.
  • Project leadership in compliance enhancement initiatives by collaborating with other departments (Engineering, Digital, Human Resources, Supply Chain, IT etc.).
  • Provide support for duty recovery programs such as drawback.
  • Ensure appropriate records retention to support trade compliance.
  • Facilitate import clearance, liaising with international counterparts, third party providers, and brokers as necessary.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ Degree
  • 5+ years of quality International Trade Compliance experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Customs broker license preferred
  • Subject matter expertise in import and export compliance.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including a solid executive presence.
  • General corporate or commercial experience providing guidance and practical solutions for doing business with or in other countries.
  • Proficient in Free Trade agreements and other Duty Preference Programs.
  • Compliance program, risk assessment, risk management and/or audit experience.
  • IATA and dangerous goods compliance
  • The ability to build relationships in the corporate business setting and foster a client-service oriented atmosphere.
  • Must be a strong leader and individual contributor, with excellent judgment and professional maturity.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure, in a fast-paced environment of rapidly changing demands.
