About the role

The Senior Commodity Manager, Steel is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for steel service center suppliers that support manufacturing operations across Carrier. This role drives supplier performance, cost optimization, commercial negotiations, and supply continuity while partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure operational excellence and long-term business success.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Commodity Manager, Steel, you'll be responsible for:

  • Develop and execute sourcing and supplier management strategies for steel service center suppliers to support business, operational, quality, and cost objectives.

  • Lead supplier selection, commercial negotiations, contract management, pricing strategies, and payment term discussions to maximize value and support working capital goals.

  • Drive cost reduction, productivity, risk mitigation, and value analysis/value engineering (VAVE) initiatives across the steel supply base.

  • Manage supplier performance related to quality, delivery, inventory management, capacity planning, and continuity of supply.

  • Partner with operations, planning, engineering, quality, finance, and supply chain teams to align sourcing strategies with manufacturing requirements and business objectives.

As a minimum you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Operations, Finance, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in strategic sourcing, category management, procurement, supply chain, or supplier management, or an advanced degree with at least 7 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience developing sourcing strategies, supplier selection processes, and negotiation strategies within manufacturing, industrial, or materials-based environments.

  • Strong knowledge of supplier management, commercial negotiations, total cost of ownership analysis, and cross-functional stakeholder engagement.

  • Ability to evaluate supplier capabilities related to cost, quality, delivery, reliability, and commercial performance.

Although not necessary, it would be nice if you have:

  • Experience managing steel, metals, or industrial material categories.

  • Experience with steel service centers, value-added processing environments, or directed-buy supply models.

  • Experience leading supplier performance improvement initiatives, cost optimization programs, and business reviews within complex supply chains.
