About the role

The Intern, Commodity Management & Sourcing will support the North America Steel Raw Materials team with a strong focus on financial analytics, KPI tracking, productivity measurement, and working capital performance. This role will partner closely with Category Managers and Category Specialists to support steel service center sourcing, supply chain issue management, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The intern will gain hands‑on exposure to raw material sourcing, supplier performance management, and supply chain finance while contributing directly to measurable business outcomes.

This internship is needed to support the Steel Raw Materials team with financial KPI tracking, productivity initiatives, and working capital (DPO) management within a high‑spend, volatile commodity category. The role provides dedicated analytical support to ensure savings initiatives, supplier performance, and supply chain risks are tracked accurately and consistently, allowing Category Managers to focus on strategic sourcing, negotiations, and risk mitigation. The position delivers meaningful financial and operational value while serving as a cost‑effective talent development pipeline.

Financial & KPI Management

  • Support tracking and reporting of category KPIs, including:

    • Cost savings and VAVE pipeline tracking

    • Supplier productivity and performance metrics

    • Dual Qualification and DPO Performance

  • Assist in monitoring Days Payable Outstanding (DPO) performance for the Steel Raw Materials team, including:

    • Baseline tracking vs. targets

    • Supplier payment term compliance

    • Identification of opportunities to improve working capital

  • Help maintain and enhance category dashboards used for leadership reviews (monthly, quarterly, and annual).

Productivity & Analytics

  • Track and analyze supplier productivity initiatives, including:

    • Grade optimization opportunities

    • Coating or specification changes

    • Volume leverage and consolidation opportunities

  • Support development of standardized trackers for:

    • Cost savings initiatives

    • Open actions and deliverables

    • Financial impact realization vs. plan

  • Assist in preparing executive‑level summaries and materials for internal reviews

Supply Chain & Operations Support

  • Support the Steel Raw Materials team in managing day‑to‑day supply chain issues, including:

    • Steel availability and allocation constraints

    • Service center capacity challenges

    • Lead time and inventory risks

  • Assist with supplier communication and follow‑ups, including meeting preparation, notes, and action tracking.

  • Help analyze demand fluctuations and identify risk mitigation actions in coordination with supply chain planning.

Continuous Improvement & Process Rigor

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on:

    • Standardized templates and trackers

    • Improved data accuracy and consistency

    • Enhanced visibility to financial and operational performance

  • Identify opportunities to automate or streamline reporting processes using Excel, Power BI, or similar tools.

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Supply chain management or Finance.

  • Must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. 

  • Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities

Pay Range

The annual salary for this position is $ 36,750–$127,500.
