Role Overview

The EHS Specialist is a proactive, hands-on role responsible for driving the implementation, execution, and continuous maintenance of environmental, health, and safety programs across Carrier Australia. Reporting to the regional EHS director, this position partners directly with field teams, operations, and management to ensure strict compliance with Australian WHS/EHS regulations, Carrier Corporate EHS Policy, and ISO 14001/45001/9001 standards. This role requires a self-driven, action-oriented professional with a strong bias for execution, who takes full ownership of daily operational safety tasks, delivers pragmatic solutions, and actively supports evolving business needs across our Australian operations. This is a nation-wide role that requires regular travel to project and other sites across Australia.

Key Responsibilities Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and champion a strong EHS culture across all Australian offices, field operations and teams, promoting safety, environmental awareness and accountability.
  • Own and maintain the EHS Management System, ensuring compliance with corporate policies, Australian legislation and ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 9001 standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying EHS risks and gaps, implementing practical solutions and partnering with operations to improve safety performance.
  • Lead audits, inspections and incident investigations, ensuring non-conformances, corrective actions and statutory reporting requirements are effectively managed and closed out.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training and risk management programs, including inductions, JSAs, SWMS and procedures for high-risk activities and contractor management.
  • Provide expert, hands-on EHS guidance to operational teams, supporting regulatory compliance, workplace safety, environmental requirements and day-to-day problem solving.
  • Manage EHS reporting, workers’ compensation, licensing and compliance registers, providing accurate performance data and actionable insights to leadership.
  • Own ESG and sustainability reporting and regulatory relationships, while providing flexible, hands-on support across all EHS matters as required by the business.

Required Competencies & Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (WHS) or equivalent Australian EHS qualification. NEBOSH or other international certifications are highly regarded.
  • 5-8 years of relevant EHS experience in a service, HVAC, construction, or industrial environment. Experience supporting field operations is essential.
  • Strong working knowledge of Australian WHS legislation (including harmonized WHS Act and Regulations), environmental protection legislation, and regulatory compliance requirements across multiple Australian states/territories.
  • Experience with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 9001 standards, including participation in audits and implementation activities.
  • Practical experience in service operations, HVAC systems, construction sites, or mechanical projects is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a team player, building strong relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Experience communicating and liaising with Australian government agencies and regulators (e.g., SafeWork, WorkSafe, EPA).
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and training delivery skills with the ability to engage field teams effectively.
  • Strong capability to work both independently and as part of a team, with a service-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to travel within Australia to support operations as required.
  • Proficiency in English (written and verbal communication).
