Role Overview

The Commissioning Engineer is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient commissioning of Building Management System (BMS) projects to ensure successful project delivery in line with scope, programme, quality, and customer expectations.

The role is accountable for executing commissioning activities, verifying system functionality against design intent, supporting engineering integration, and ensuring all systems are fully operational, documented, and ready for client handover. The Commissioning Engineer plays a critical role in delivering defect-free projects and enabling a smooth transition to the Service team.

Key Responsibilities Key Responsibilities

  • Commission BMS and associated systems in accordance with project requirements, functional descriptions, drawings, sequences of operation, company standards, and WHS requirements.

  • Conduct functional testing, fault-finding, and rectification, including device/controller replacement, wiring re-termination, installation issues, programming adjustments, graphics modifications, and control optimisation.

  • Configure and optimise system functions, including alarms, trends, advanced parameters, and integration with third-party systems and high-level interfaces such as WebCTRL.

  • Maintain safety, quality, and compliance by following SWMS, site-specific safety requirements, company policies, and ensuring systems are fully tested and validated prior to handover.

  • Maintain accurate commissioning documentation, including test records, mark-ups, defect registers, and closeout documentation, ensuring all issues are tracked and resolved.

  • Work collaboratively with Project Managers, customers, subcontractors, and stakeholders to provide clear commissioning updates, manage risks and actions, achieve project milestones, minimise rework, and support successful project delivery.

Required Competencies & Qualifications

  • Always maintain confidentiality with regard to employee information and personal data.                                                                                                                        

  • Demonstrated experience in commissioning BMS or HVAC control systems

  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, controls, and networking

  • Experience with BMS platforms such as WebCTRL

  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and functional descriptions

  • Experience working on construction or building services projects

  • Experience fault-finding and system optimisation

  • Familiarity with working alongside Project Managers, engineers, and other trades.

  • Maintain Company standards by ensuring personal adherence to Company policies and practices. 

  • Take appropriate care to always represent Carrier in a professional manner (in appearance, speech, dress, etc.).
