Role Responsibilities:

Job Summary

Sets-up, operates and maintains lathes and milling machines. Ability to review drawings or samples to ensure accurate production; take precise measurements for cutting/shaping tasks using appropriate machine settings to engineering, and quality specifications.

Machinist Job Responsibilities:

  • Operates and maintains lathe and milling machines.
  • Reviews drawings, instructions, blueprints or samples to ensure accurate production.
  • Proficient in all aspects of CNC machining, including milling, turning, close tolerance manufacturing, and more.
  • Takes precise measurements for cutting or shaping.
  • Experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (lathes, milling, grinders etc.)
  • Ability to use precision tools (e.g. calipers & compass) to take accurate measurements.
  • Knowledge of the properties of metals, example (brass, stainless-steel, bronze & aluminum etc.)
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and manuals.
  • Good at math with analytical abilities.
  • Physical stamina to stand for 8 hours, and strength to lift 30lbs.
  • Selects appropriate machine and settings for a given task.
  • Plans proper sequence of tasks to complete the assignment.
  • Monitors production, adjusting feed and other settings as necessary.
  • Maintains inventory of completed products.
  • Checks output for quality assurance and document or discards defects.
  • Identifies need for and performs machine maintenance e.g. (coolant, lubricant/hydraulic oil.
  • Maintains a safe and clean workstation.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.

Qualification Skills:

  • Excellent coordination and mechanical skills
  • Excellent attention to minute details, especially when taking measurements before beginning work.
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed instructions and procedures (blueprints, route sheets, and specifications
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in CAD software is highly important
  • Proficient in math
  • Basic computer skills

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of vocational/technical training or an apprenticeship will be an asset.
  • Experience working with machine tools or mechanical assembly
  • Working knowledge of safety protocols
  • Apprenticeship or vocational/technical training preferred.
