About this Role
Carrier is looking for a talented and motivated technician who will be a part of Carrier’s Innovation Hub Americas, to enable the development of innovative and novel HVAC&R (Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration) technologies. Innovation Hub Americas is located in Syracuse, which is the North American center for Carrier’s product design and development, as well as groundbreaking innovative research. We ideate, design, verify and validate new products and technologies across Carrier’s global portfolio, supporting Carrier’s goal to be the global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions.
This role would focus on the development and validation of components, sub-systems and systems, working closely with a highly skilled team of engineers, focusing on breakthrough technologies including dehumidification, heat pumps, compression-based systems, energy storage solutions, and new emerging topics. Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities as a staff technician for the Innovation Hub Americas, include:
Perform test and troubleshoot advanced HVAC&R systems in an engineering laboratory.
Connect electrical, mechanical and refrigeration systems.
Ensure the proper maintenance, installation and operation/calibration of electrical, mechanical, and electronic instruments.
Troubleshoots technical issues in the laboratory and ensure fast and safe resolutions.
Use Data Acquisition Systems such as LabView or equivalent to control and conduct testing.
Use laboratory equipment to perform pressure, temperature, and electrical measurements.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment, while following safety procedures and ensuring adherence to all EH&S requirements.
Adapt to new procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment handling to meet the more complex requirements and functions of the role.
Maintains a highly motivated work ethic while working with engineers and peers to ensure a collaborative and productive environment.
Work on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining organizational systems and ensuring orderly environments.
Required Qualifications
6+ years of hands-on experience in manufacturing, lab and/or R&D.
Associate's degree, Technical/Business School Certificate or Diploma, Skilled Trades Apprenticeship, or other post high school training.
1+ yr experience with Microsoft Office tools for task management, test reports creation and communication with peers and leaders.
Preferred Qualifications
2-year associate of science or engineering in engineering technology, mechanical or electrical engineering.
2+ yr experience with HVAC&R equipment (Installation, Troubleshooting, Maintenance etc.).
Demonstrated record both working in team settings and autonomously completing tasks.
Hands-on experience with setting up test rigs, preferably related to HVAC&R systems, in psychrometric / environmental control chambers.
Experience with operating psychrometric chambers, environmental lab testing and data collection.
Experience operating, inspecting, and maintaining test setups and equipment to detect malfunctions (Troubleshoot units or instrumentation issues).
Familiarity with electrical work and LO/TO practices and procedures, including 460-3-60 machinery.
Hands-on experience in setting up, maintaining, calibrating, and using all types of laboratory equipment such as pressure, temperature, humidity and electrical measurements sensors and instruments.
Experience with soldering and De-solder.
Experience with pumps, compressors, VFDs, control valves, and PLC operation.
Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics of HVAC&R systems.
Experience or familiarity with forklift and overhead crane operation.
Able to troubleshoot data acquisition and instrumentation problems.
Familiarity with HVAC operation, refrigerant handling, and EPA certification.
Knowledge of safety standards for chemical, electrical and mechanical systems, including OSHA standards.

Pay Range:
