Senior Manager, Communications and Public Relations, Kidde (M5)

This position will lead public relations for Kidde – Carrier’s leading residential firebrand in its Fire & Security segment. The ideal candidate will have experience in media relations, thought leadership issues management, and a flair for messaging. The ideal candidate for this position also demonstrates excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills. Must be a self-starter and possess tactical, creative, and strategic insight, with a track record of success across a broad spectrum of today’s communication channels – both internal and external. The candidate will report to the global Carrier Fire & Security Communications Director and join a high-performing communications/marketing team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead Kidde’s communications strategy and plans.

  • Oversee the media relations strategy and public relations efforts for key strategic initiatives. Including writing press releases, pitching media, preparing key messages, and managing media inquiries and interviews.

  • Innovate by staying on top of the trends and latest best practices in communications

  • Develop compelling organic content (written, web, digital) and work closely with social media and internal communications teams to ensure an integrated communications approach.

  • Identify earned and social media opportunities and speaking engagements that position Kidde as a thought leader in the industry.

  • Manage issues & crisis communications, including the development of materials for internal and external channels during incidents

  • Work closely with trusted outside agency partners to ensure flawless execution.

  • Utilize a robust ecosystem of media monitoring tools to ensure that goals and PR KPIs are met.

  • Partner with global communications/PR team in executing plans

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team, including strategic marketing and product management

  • Serve as a strategic, trusted external communications advisor to leadership, business, and other key stakeholders across the practice.

  • Manage social impact efforts, including stakeholder relations with key groups


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, English, Journalism, or related field of study required.


  • Around 10 years of experience in communications and public relations

  • Experience with media – print/broadcast/digital – strong media relations expertise and contacts a plus.

  • Demonstrated track record of successful, proactive strategic communications programs that employ creativity and use a variety of communications channels (external and internal).

  • Experience with integration of paid, owned, and earned media strategies as well as experience with traditional and new media, including social media and influencer marketing.

  • Exceptionally strong written and verbal communications skills that reflect an ability to clarify and simplify complex issues and subject matters.

  • Strong executive presence, exceptional listening skills, and the ability to anticipate needs and prepare accordingly.

  • Resourceful in gathering information from across the organization.

  • Extremely organized with unfailing attention to detail.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects, meet tight deadlines, and thrive in a very dynamic environment.

  • Ability to translate complicated concepts into a common language.

  • Strong project management and consulting skills.

  • Event management experience.

  • Experience leading PR agencies, teams, and budgets.

  • Ability to work in a constantly changing corporate environment, independently as well as on a team, and interact with all levels of management in a professional and positive manner.

  • Proven leadership, credibility, and collaboration skills.

  • Experience working with key stakeholders internally and externally.

  • Experience managing issues and crisis

  • Ability to assess data to help monitor and track results to measure the effectiveness of communication strategies.
